Just to let you all know why the sudden performance increase, MT's server ram has been increased from 1.5GB to 2.5GB.

Religion and Science are both contradictitory with each other and at the sametime are unable to work without the other and vice versa.

God is a personification of a supreme being or the creator of this universe and this is subject to each person's view (like other religions which worship many gods). We like to believe there is one or many supreme beings running the place.

However if you meant there is no creator/s then you are definately wrong. The universe and it's features are all created by something or someone who had a masterplan, even if you claim that things fell into place by itself, it would need a set of rules or laws drawn up by something. Life as we know it couldn't happen accidently or a freak chance.

Science is a way of how man understands his or her world. It's main purpose is to give more understanding about the world that has been created and how to allow man to make use of it to survive.

If you asked me for my opinion, I would believe there is a supreme being or beings actually running the show. Like in this little world of MT so few people actually understand what is being done to run the show, the world is a similiar place on a much grander scale.

There is so much science can explain and after that, it's where faith begins.

It depends if the country has a very good reason for wanting you to be drafted in the military.

The US is big, so they don't need everyone to be a soldier, if you look at countries like Israel, their males and females go for military basic since they're whole country is being attacked by all their neighbours.

Conscript armies are used when the government has a shortage of professional soldiers or if the country expects you to earn your citizenship by giving back some of time to your country.

It's not a question as to whether an army goes to war, it's not their call. There's nothing wrong with the US military, they didn't declare war, the irony is that the US government which was elected by it's citizens who probably aren't soldiers, send the US military marching off to Iraq.

So if you asked me, the real question should be, should the government re-think it's decision BEFORE sending their army to war.

Personally, I would serve my country in whatever way they want me to, after all, it's your country, you have a say in how it's runned. If citizenship to a country is as easy as filling up a form or being born with it, then you won't treasure it until it's gone.

I'm going into the army by end of this year into the singapore armed forces. We have a large army due to the World War II when the british and americans lost in south east asia to the Japanese, if america or europe can't protect you, then you have to do it yourself.

I got a better way of handling gun control.

Have everyone conscripted in the military, like in starship troopers. Every citizen is a soldier. So technically all of them will have the ability AND the responsbility to defend themselves AND to prevent a totalitarian government from arising.

People already do it in switzerland and in israel, where every men or women is technically militia ready to oppose criminals and defend themselves against whatever. ideally this will be the perfect solution in the US of A.

But of course, we know it won't happen.

If you look at it, democracy allows the freedom of speech, however it also gives the freedom for you to own guns and use them whatever way you choose.

The constitution assumes you can be trusted to use the weapon responsbily.

if it's anything to blame, it's america's police force and military are at fault which is inadquete to deal with crime, in that case you might as well get rid of your military and your police force and defend yourself with guns. Which brings me to my original point that every person will be a soldier.

In a short fact, people cannot be trusted to do the good thing, and to give or make avliable weapons even to the average citizen won't help the matter. Other countries don't have guns and people don't die. If the robber robs you with a gun, don't be so stupid as to resist, let the police handle the matter. Even expert trained soldiers know they cannot fight even if they have a firearm tucked into their jackets, you'll be shot dead before you can even reach for your own gun.

I agree that guns don't kill people, that people kill people. But giving people guns only just makes the situation worse. If guns were such a good thing, then why is the US the only country where firearms are legal and deaths due to gun crimes are so high?

Declaring war nowadays isn't what is was during world war I and world war II.

Due to rapid globalisation, the world has become alot more interconnected and dependent on one another, and information tends to spread around quicker. Also know that the wars fought after world war II were small scale and not on a global level per se, and even then all attempts were made to prevent any sort of military engagement from escalating to an all out war. Reasons being Nuclear Arsenal + world economy.

No sane leader will ever go to war UNLESS there is no other diplomatic option.

As for US invading china, fat hope. The US has borrowed billions of dollars from china, china can easily crash the US economy just by dumping a trade embargo onto the US. Destroying a country's economy is alot more effective than dropping muntions on it.

As for north korea, latest reports indicate the country is about to collapse due to famine. However the biggest concern is not north korea, but SOUTH korea. When the DPRK collapses, they will merge with the south, and the unified korea is going to be ANTI-US. And when the north collaspes, the nuclear weapons from the north will go to the unified korea, and they will then attack japan.

But given the situation, I think world war III maybe near if bush continues going around like a bull in a china shop (no pun intended). And trust me, one day america will have to pay for it's arrogance, sept 11 may just be the start of it.

In the concern of the US military, contrary to beliefs, the US military is in a very bad shape. Due to budget cuts in 1995 during bill clinton's era, the US military is now going to war with 1980s stuff, stuff like the OICW and the comanche were cancelled. Additionally the US is loosing soldiers in iraq and do not have the soldiers to replace them. In fact, recently a bill was presented to congress on compulsory conscription, but of course it was shotdown.

Ask any soldier as to whether he wants to fight. Any soldier can tell you that although he is trained to kill if necessary, he would not want a war unless it can be helped. Right now due to how america and american society has become dedecant and to a certain extent, arrogant, soldiers in iraq are losing their lives over oil just to keep the american corporate machine alive.

If you asked me, it's about time the US re-thinks what it's doing before the US really starts world war III.

We actually run MT off TWO servers. A dual Pentium III 1Ghz server for web, and a Pentium IV 3Ghz for database. At times the PIV 3Ghz system can hit full 100% CPU because of MT's database. Another thing is the internet traffic possibly might be congested somewhere along the pipeline.

So we might have to get the database server AND bandwidth upgraded soon to cater to the increasing demand, this requires money AND time to aquire, and this is difficult as we need to work under budget constraints.

For the time being, I'm attempting to get our pipeline increased from 2mbps dedicated burstable up 10mbps to 5mbps dedicated burstable up to 10mbps. So there would be a specific SLA on the line. I am also coming up with plans to purhcase something along the lines of 64bit dual core or dual proc to replace the P4 database.

Do NOT expect the system to be fast as there's like 500 to 600 users on at anytime. The load on the server machines is pretty high considering the work the systems must do to support uploading downing, and forum posting at the same time.

I believe this misunderstanding with the current homosexual issues is because of extremist millitant gays (like millitant muslims, only instead of saying everyone needs to be muslim, everyone needs to be gay instead). These gays are almost actively preaching AND dennoucing normal heterosexual love for homosexuality, in fact the idea of gay used to represent happy but homosexuals took up the meaning so it means homosexual contexts. The problem is that these group of homosexuals feel that the only way they are not discriminated is by turning everyone else gay.

Unfortunately, groups of such people live in our world. extremism now could be due to problems like globalisation where traditions, a way of life are now challenged.

Homosexuality for me draws a question mark, we can't tell who is right now, to follow one's true love or to follow the status quo. But what I believe are nature's laws setup for us, like the laws of gravity, you jump off the roof of a tall building and you fall and die, simple as that. Instead what happens if you become homosexual and what's the negative results, that's the question.

Like for example, everyone thought it was a radical idea using the internal combustion engine. However a 100 years into the future, we suddenly relise, "Oh hell, we're running out of oil, the ozone layer is thinning and we're all having our lives cut short.". Maybe years down the road, when the extremist gays have finally taken over the world, and everyone loves whoever they want to love, they finally figure out the truth is that they just ended the human race, no more procreation and nil children.

Or taking into account the idea of vandread, having DNA of female injected into female eggs and vice versa. We all know that cloning causes problems, the clone is usually sickly and dies rather quickly due to a host of medical problems and such.

So for the religious and traditional people, homosexuals are nothing to be afraid of and if they're wrong or against god or religion, nature will do the rest of the work for you, like what happened to the titanic.

As for homoseuxals, I believe as a human you have the rights, but observing it other people have their own freedom to choose whether to accept you or not, but I think the biggest challenge will be fighting nature itself, AIDS and HIV might just be the forerunners of something even worse to come (yes, diesease are getting worse). I have to admire their courage from breaking away for the rigid beliefs of people, but whether the world, not just humankind can accept it is a whole different matter altogether.

However I would make it clear that extremist homosexuality will not be tolerated, like when AIDS came out, the homosexuals issued threats to poison the blood supply with HIV infected blood if a cure wasn't found. A person who is willing to cause another person harm just for the sake of futhering his/her own cause or desires deserves to be punished.

The exact stats of MT's system is classified, but we run MT off two servers, a dual P3 1Ghz machine for and a newer 3GHz P4 for database.

Servers are co-located currently at Qala which is an ISP belonging to creative technologies and the servers are based at their creative tech's world HQ here in singapore.

Technically the uplink should be very good owing to the fact that singapore has direct lines to the US and to europe, most global telecos like worldcom, verio and NTT setup their asian HQs here. Singapore Telecom is one of asia's largest telecommunication companies owning uplinks all over the place from Austrialia, the US and most asian countries like Japan.

MT uses 10mbps constant off a dedicated international line, most of which is international traffic. Previously we were using starhub's bandwidth which uses a verio/reach/worldcom uplink but Qala's utilises singtel's network in addition so it's much faster.

It also doesn't mean that your 100mbps is 100mbps dedicated international. It's probably is only within your country. The bandwidth we use is dedicated and it's assured that the connection will have a global outreach and not just within a single country.

Also one thing, CMS doesn't mean it needs to come with a design you like, best design one yourself. don't rely on the pre fab ones.

If it's life imprisonment, then I suggest that this life imprisonment will be carried out with the rights of that person removed and his identity erased off records. No parole no nothing. We can send prisoners somewhere remote in the middle of nowhere trapped there till the end of their lives, forgotten by society and the rest of the world. Think gulags.

So by saying that you may want life imprisonment may not be the most "ethical way". Like in the previous post mentioned, you could torture the person till he dies. it's still considered life imprisonment being imprisoned till he dies, unless you mention of "natural causes". We could setup concentration camps and get them to work till they drop dead? Gulags in russia and china do forced labour, some people say you're better off dead then in one of those work camps.

I'm saying that whether they get the death penalty or not, they will still die. Death is inevitable, it is not a matter of it not happening, it's a matter of WHEN.

Western Societies are already giving out "death penalties" through wars, food bycotts to other countries where people are starving just because they didn't choose to follow the western train of thought or by being of a different religion or belief.

Think about it, and they're not even criminals. That's Hypocrisy in a nutshell for the anti-death penalty people. You can spare a thought for a white 42 year old rapist and killer than a starving 6 year old girl in a third world country. Chances are the 6 year old girl will die.

Revenge is a human branding to the "survival of the fittest", tit for tat, butter for fat, I kill your dog and you kill my cat. Though humans are civilized, murders degrade themselves to animals. If they cannot act like civilized people, then they are no better than animals. Why treat an animal like a human being? An animal knowes no right from wrong. Which brings us to an obvious conclusion is that out of ever single creature on this planet, humans are the only ones able to commit evil acts.

So you say killing the murder is evil, but is it alot more evil than the murderer slaughtering, say a whole bus load of innocent children? Should we allow people like this to continue existing in this world?

Frankly, I am supporting ANY ideas to prevent these people from ever entering society again or burderning society. Why should we support a murder who would, given any chance kill our loved ones or anyone around us just for sheer pleasure or greed?

Lastly, there's no such thing as "stop completely". The death penalty may not have prevented almost all murders from happening, but it has certainely reduced the number and detered people from thinking of it. The chinese proverb "kill 1 person to ward off 1000 people"

Maybe in an hippie and utopian world, this might be possible. But we live in the real world when people can commit the most gruesome cruelest things possible. The only thing we can do now is to "manage" and reduce the number. If you had the chance to excecute adolf hitler before he went to exterminate 6 million jews, would you do it?

I think a even worse crime is ignorance. Because nobody had the sense to stop evil, more people died because of it. World War II happened because of people's ignorance to the problem.

First on the issue of homosexuality from a scienctific point of view. The reason why religion is so against homosexuality is that it's is going against "nature" or to an extent of what God created. However nothing man made like religion is ever correct.

It is argued that being homosexual is a choice and not something that a person is born with from the beginning. However research show it could be a naturally occuring due to the fact animals also practise it.

In my opinion, it is fear and distrust of the homosexuals and vice versa that is causing the problem. People being insensitive to homosexuals, and homosexuals being frightened of presecution.

I believe a common fear is that homosexuals will overshoot the majority of the human population which is quite untrue. Love and Procreation are two different issues. Homosexuals will never make up a majority of the population, scientifically homosexuals can never reproduce therefore homosexuals do die young and without blood related children. The idea to have a marriage of a man and woman is to not only the world that they are "together", but to start a family, and in a bigger picture pass down your genetic material to your descendants, love is either physcological or natural attraction or both. It's nature's way of making sure mankind keeps developing.

As for gay rights issue. They are humans, and they are not to be discriminated as for as I cam concern a person is still a person whether it's a he or a she or a different skin color. The blood of a black american and white american and asian are all the same, skin color doesn't mean anything. People interpret unusual traits as a disadvantage and because "you're not like the rest so it means something's wrong with you and not the rest"

In regards to this post, I believe it was unfair. However if a situation were a homosexual commits a sexual crime like molesting or rape, then by all means they will have to be prosecuted like a normal person.
